This is a very unique Teisco Del Rey from the 1960's. We're guessing a bit on the year as these Teisco's have no real way to date by serial number but it puts us. Here’s a Japanese beauty—known as the “Tulip” model—a fire-engine red from the ’60s. Seller says she’s in great condition with the nicks and knocks you’d expect on a 50-year old guitar. Curious thing, seller says there’s no serial number so she’s been dated by her hardware and features. But on her neck cover plate there is a serial number clear as day. I don’t know what to make of that (maybe their record keeping wasn’t so good?) but if you’re curious, ask seller.

Seller says he’s been through and cleaned her pots, conditioned her fingerboard, polished her body and set her action as well as he could but “she is no Les Paul. LOL.” I think that means her action still rides a bit high. But again, ask seller to explain. She comes with a new non-original hardshell case.

Personally, even if she doesn’t turn out to be a player for you, she definitely had a unique charm. The Tulip works for me and I can see her as part of any Teisco collection. If this puts some fire in your cheeks, she’s all yours for, including free shipping. 10 folks are watching her. I see a serial number. So why is dating her so hard?

Let me know if you learn the answer. Love her pick guard too. She’s a sweet thing. Posted in, Tagged.

Teisco was a Japanese budget brand that produced guitars starting in the late '40s. By the early '60s, Teisco guitars became increasingly unique with a number of original shapes and designs being produced. Those imported to the United States were branded as Teisco Del Rey starting in 1965. Collector interest in Teisco and other budget import brands has increased in the past several years.

Teiscos are notoriously difficult to date and identify as no comprehensive records were kept during production. The ET-200 was a two pick-up version of an earlier design. Years of Production: 1960s Design Elements: Two single-coil pickups, floral pickguard, dot inlays Related Articles.
